done! online at http://readsettlers.org/text-index.html

some leftover tasks

- find citation links if they exist
- gather 'recommended reading' and major works cited for each chapter
- make stickers or something
- put the stickers on your guitar

im a readsettlers.org originalist. just "read settlers" with a blue underlined hyperlink to the pdf in size like 16 times new roman against a white field, or however it was exactly i dont remember. or if you have a bunch of supplemental stuff too at least make the homepage faithful. something for the diehard fans of readsettlers.org.

i respect and will honor that wish.

IIRC here's the PDF that it used:

https://onkwehonwerising.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/settlers-mythology-of-the-white-proletariat.pdf

also it'd be pretty cool to see a few sources sakai prominently cites in the book hosted on your site as well. i'll look thru the endnotes and see what is publicly available online already.

EDIT: if we're feeling ambitious, maybe we could make an HTML version of the book complete with links to some of the original sources cited?

i'd be willing to do this for one or a few chapters after i'm done with finals next week. that pdf is searchable (it's the same as the one that's on aaaaaaaaarg) and it seems like it's a quality scan. a random paragraph comes out like this:

Once these poor whites were raised off the fields
and given the chance to help boss and police captive
Afrikans, their rebellious days were over. The importance
of this experience is that it shows the material basis for the
lack of class consciousness by early Euro-Amerikan
workers, and how their political consciousness was directly
related to how much they shared in the privileges of the
larger settler society. Further, the capitalists proved to
their satisfaction that dissent and rebelliousness within the
settler ranks could be quelled by increasing the colonial ex- ploitation of other nations and peoples

so it'd just take a little mindless editing and image capturing to clean it up.

yeah that would be awesome. for now ill just put the pdf up there. with some of the interviews and reviews i can find on a separate extras page
#18
k, i'll pm you when i'm ready to Perform This Labor so we can coordinate. i know how to do things with texts and whatnot but web design is not my thing so idk what filetypes and formatting styles would be easiest to work with for something like this

The random bolding is an important part of the text and I disagree with your removal of it

well its up but the name servers havent updated yet so it might give you a weird redirect. fans of the rhizzone are of course used to being redirected to all sorts of error pages constantly so i doubt it will be a big deal

i thought that this was the case too, but some of it -- like the bolding of certain quotations and important sentences -- is clearly intentional. there are others that are only a little bolder and more random that are probably accidental. does anyone have, like, a paper copy to check against

I'm two days into this book and it's pretty amazing. More people should read it.

if you are reading settlers why not also read Basic Politics of Movement Security by the same author.
#39
tpaine, the coauthor of Basic Politics of Movement Security is "Mandy Hiscocks".
